Radiation Oncology

A radiation oncologist is a specialist doctor who uses radiation therapy in the treatment of cancer patients. Radiation oncologists work in teams with other doctors to create and deliver radiation therapy programs.

Eligibility Requirements

To be accepted in the RANZCR training program, you must:

  • Have MBBS or equivalent medical qualifications as recognised by the registering authority of the country in which the RANZCR training program is conducted and the Board of the College
  • Be registered as a medical practitioner by the registered authority recognised by the Board of the College in the state or country where you are training (Australia, New Zealand or Singapore)
  • Have completed at least two full years in an approved hospital as an intern or resident.

Application Process

If you meet the prerequisites, you can apply for a training position directly through the Radiation Oncology Training Network. Each Training Network individually advertises their available positions. Positions may be advertised directly by accredited training sites/hospitals of individual networks throughout the year.

Victorian/Tasmanian Radiation Oncology Training Network (VICTRANET)

Trainees undergo 2 phases of training:

  • Phase 1 (minimum 18 months)
  • Phase 2 (usually minimum 36 months)

  • Contouring and Plan Evaluation Tool (CPET)
  • Case Report and Discussion Tool (CRDT)
  • Communication Skills Tool (CST)

  • Practical Oncology Experiences (POEs)
  • Phase 1 and Phase 2 Examinations
  • Research requirements

Admission to Fellowship Fee: $6,000
